Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Salt Lake County Residents Directory receives, why it may be used, and which choices are available. The reference has no account system and does not host the county’s public records. Search widgets and government portals can apply their own policies.

Information You Send

If you type a name, phone number, or address into a sponsored search widget, the information goes to the third-party provider that operates that result service. This reference does not keep a copy of the query. A message sent through email contains the details you choose to include, and those details are used to answer the message.

Ordinary Server Logs

Hosting systems may record an IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps. Aggregate review helps keep Salt Lake County pages available and shows which reference material is useful. Cookies or similar tools may be used for basic analytics or advertising measurement where those services are present.

How Information Is Used

Information received in a message is used for support, correction notices, or site administration. Search submissions are handled under the provider’s terms. Salt Lake County, Utah, and other record custodians control the records linked from these pages, not this reference.

Links to Custodians

Pages link to the Salt Lake County Assessor, Recorder, Clerk, Archives, Utah courts, state voter and vital services, libraries, and other official sources. A linked office may collect information directly, require an account, charge a fee, or set an access rule. Read that office’s current notice before submitting a form.

Who May Receive Data

Hosting, analytics, advertising, email, and search providers may handle the limited data described above as part of their service. Public-record submissions go to the selected custodian. No promise is made that an outside service uses the same retention or deletion period as this reference.

Security Practices

Reasonable administrative and technical steps are used to limit access to the small amount of information received. No online transfer or storage method is guaranteed secure. Do not email a Social Security number, full identity document, protected address, or other sensitive record to this reference.

Visitors Under 18

Public-record research should be handled by an adult who understands the custodian’s rules. This reference does not knowingly seek personal information from children. If a child sends information, a parent or guardian may contact the address below to request review.

Utah Privacy Rights

The Utah Consumer Privacy Act, Utah Code §§13-61-101 et seq., took effect December 31, 2023. Depending on applicability, a Utah consumer may have access, deletion, copy, and opt-out rights for data supplied to a business, including certain sale or targeted-advertising choices. A covered business generally responds within 45 days. Requests about data held by this reference can be sent through the Contact page. Public records held by Salt Lake County or Utah offices are outside this reference’s control; send removal or correction requests to the custodian.

Policy Changes

This policy may be revised when services, law, or data practice changes. The posted version controls after it is published. Utah public-record access remains governed by the custodian and by the Government Records Access and Management Act, Utah Code Title 63G, Chapter 2.
